I made it to Minnesota! Charlie the Cat had a miserable time traveling (2 buses, 3 subways, 2 flights, 1 car ride), but he seems to have gotten through it with minimal psychological damage. I've been doing nothing but setting up basic services (internet, cable, recycling), changing addresses for every subscription/credit card/bank account we have, reading all of the appliance manuals, fixing our insurance policy, and the list goes on. There has been no spinning or knitting at all since landing here. Boo hoo. I sure could use some down time.
Matt did manage to introduce me to a local spinner/weaver. She's the wife of one of his co-workers. She had lots of interesting things to say about the community, including all of the local fiber gatherings. I'm looking forward to becoming active here!
Since there is nothing new in Twosheep Fiberland, I will show you something old. Remember this dyed roving? I attempted to make a sort of self-striping yarn with it. I took pieces that were dyed red (1/3 oz), orange (1/3 oz), yellow (1/3 oz), green (1/2 oz), and brown (1/2 oz) – figuring if Ma Nature can get it to look spectacular, I had a shot at making it look not-ugly. I split each roving into short tufts about three inches long and spun singles alternating green/brown or red/orange/yellow.

I didn't want to get more complicated than a 2 ply yarn, but in hindsight, given the hirsute nature that is mohair (even kid mohair), I should have made it a lower twist 3 ply yarn. Ah well. Next time. I wound the singles onto two storage bobbins and plied green/brown against red/orange/yellow.

This here is only enough for one adult sock. I'll have to repeat the process sometime if there are to become a matched pair. I have kind of mixed feelings about this yarn. I'm not sure that it isn't ugly.
Oh, do I miss my spinning wheel. Wish I had some time to work on something FUN!

That is gorgeous yarn! You don’t have to replicate it, you can knit in stripes with another completely different handspun!
