Hi! I’ve missed you! How are you doing? You look great – have you lost weight? I love what you’re wearing, and your hair looks fabulous!
*crickets chirping*
OK, so is anyone still here?
I’m sorry about the super-prolonged radio silence. Can I blame everything on work? I got sucked into 2 giant projects with deadlines (aka “summer killers”). We were launching a new service within my group (grant editing!), and our first client turned out to be one of the Top Dogs at Mayo. Ha ha ha… Gulp. (Do the physicians who look after the Dalai Lama ever get nervous?) In any case, I ended up working nights and weekends for most of the summer to make sure the grant applications were crystal clear and beautifully written. If we did it right, it means millions of dollars in extramural funding. If we didn’t do it right, ah well, there’s always the next funding cycle…
But all that work meant zero time for fun hobby stuff. I had (still have) nothing to show, and while I imagined I would write up the odd little bits here and there about topics that amused me, the months obviously rolled by without a peep from me.
Now, no more excuses! I’ve got some projects on the needles, the sewing machines are out, and my spinning wheel is at my elbow. I’m ready! What are you up to?!

welcome back!
congratulations on surviving such an intense project at work.
so, did the house ever sell, or was that adding to your stress all this time? (or is this a bad question to ask?
)
Nice to hear from you! I got sucked into playing Nerd Wars on Ravelry and it’s got me successfully making lots of modest projects, though my dissertation (three-month sweater) didn’t get done yet. Maybe that D name jinxed it for me.
Summer is done, as is our dye harvest – lots of great indigo this year.
Comment by Kate in AK 09.21.11 @ 3:41 pmStill here! I figure you’re just very busy with family and work. At least the next posted photos of the girls will show how much they’ve grown!
A friend’s 5yo started school this month. At school, they learned that we all have an invisible bucket that we carry around and we fill it up with good deeds. When we do bad/mean things, it empties our bucket.
Owen: “So when the bucket is full, I should do bad things to make more room.”
Comment by Angela 09.22.11 @ 7:17 amWelcome back ;D I know what you mean about life not allowing you to blog as much. I’m having a similar problem. I’ve been meaning to finish sewing a dress I’ve had cut out for MONTHS (a little over a year? I’ve forgotten.) and I am too tired to finish it when I get home. And the knitting has definitely been put on hold.
Comment by Nik 09.22.11 @ 10:54 amYay! Welcome back! Not that you know who I am, but I knitted the DNA scarf a while back (after recharting because my husband, the recipient, insisted he needed 10 pairs per turn rather than 8) and have checked on your blog occasionally. I’m glad things are going well. Personally I’m also just coming back to knitting, spinning, and free time, now that the baby is no longer in the newborn stage and work is starting to be less crazy (though in a different way). Good luck with everything!
Comment by Jenny 09.22.11 @ 1:54 pmWelcome back. You are in my google reader, so you pop up when you write! Hope all that work yields great results!
Comment by Lee Cockrum 09.22.11 @ 5:09 pmGlad to read from you once again! How are your girls? Can’t wait to see pictures!
Comment by Ana 09.22.11 @ 8:32 pmWelcome back! Sounds like you’ve been busy with work, and I’m sure the girls have been a factor, too. I’ve been plugging steadily away at a spinning project which I just finished (yay) but don’t know if I’ll get to the knitting right now. I’ve been swept away by doll sewing.
Comment by Cynthia 09.23.11 @ 5:20 amGood to hear from you again! I’m glad that the Mayo Clinic has support like yours for grant writing. It is one of the reasons why I did not go into academics.
Happy Knitting and Sewing!!
Comment by Mary in Carol Stream 09.23.11 @ 3:08 pmWow! That’s a lot to do, plus being a mom to 3 little girls, and life in general. Anyway, play with your toys! Have fun and don’t worry about us.
